STEVE MARKS

The past eight years of Steve's career have focused on driving top-line and operational growth in some of the most cutting edge technology companies in the world: Partner Operations at Apple Pay, Strategic Account Growth at Twilio and NC-area startup, Adwerx.

Prior to tech, Steve owned and operated a residential real estate brokerage and a lead generation/automation firm in downtown Chicago. In these roles, he learned what it actually means to manage people, make payroll, and grow businesses without a corporate safety net. Prior to that, he worked with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Aon Consulting and Sony Music.

Steve is both sales oriented and a builder by nature, designing and implementing workflow automation systems, and always looking for ways to position a business for further optimization and growth. Steve graduated from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas-Austin with a Master's of Science in Technology Commercialization, and New York University with a Bachelor's of Science in Media, Culture, and Communication. He holds active broker licenses in North Carolina (BIC-eligible) and Illinois (Managing Broker). He grew up in downtown Chicago, and currently lives in Durham, NC with his wife Cat, two boys, and family dog.

Why "Big Shoulders Company"? Carl Sandburg's 1914 poem Chicago is a love letter to the "City of Big Shoulders," where Steve grew up. The name is a nod to the tough, gritty industriousness that describes Chicago during that time, and also how Steve works: show up, carry the weight, and build something durable and resilient that lasts.
